PhD in Organic Chemistry – Phosphorus Chemistry/Organocatalysis

“Developments in Phosphiranium Ions Chemistry”

Key words : cationic chemistry, phosphorus chemistry, kinetic studies, organocatalysis.

This project aims at expanding the synthetic utility of a relatively unexplored topic and recently initiated in our group : the generation of phosphiranium ions (an unknown class of cationic phosphorus substrates) by quaternarization of phosphiranes and their C centered ring-opening with nucleophiles. The evaluation of unprecedented sequences of phosphiraniums generation / nucleophilic ring-opening, annelation processes involving ambivalent (dipolar) reaction partners and organocatalytic strategies is planned. Besides, a part of the study will be directed towards a better understanding of these unknown species reactivity. This project will be part of an ANR program and will be carried out in collaboration with Dr. Sami Lakhdar from LCMT (Laboratoire de Chimie Moléculaire et Thio-organique - Equipe Calipso - Caen) specialized in heterochemistry (phosphorus and sulfur) and physical organic chemistry.

Candidate Profile :

The candidate should hold a master degree in organic chemistry at the start of the position. He/She should have a strong background in organic synthesis and characterization methods (NMR, GC, MS, HPLC, etc). An experience in catalysis and/or handling of sensitive compounds under inert atmosphere will be appreciated.
The expected qualities of the candidate are a high motivation for research, a good organization in his/her work, ability to integrate easily and to communicate, independency in research work.
